The start of the school year also marked the grand opening of two new pre-kindergarten facilities on the East Side. Local officials held ribbon-cutting ceremonies in recent weeks at new pre-K facilities at 1683 Third Avenue and 252 East 57th Street. The schools currently serve a combined 234 students. A third new pre-K site with 180 seats will open in fall 2019 on East 76th Street. The new facilities bring the Upper East Side, where the number of available pre-K seats has long lagged behind demand, closer to the city’s goal of providing pre-K for all.
