A East Harlem resident has been charged for allegedly raping a 10 year-old child that he met on a dating app.

Drequan Drayton-Howard, 22, turned himself into the authorities on Jan. 24. He faces charges including predatory sexual assault, rape, sex abuse, and endangerment of a child.

According to the Manhattan D.A.’s office, Drayton-Howard pled not guilty to the charges at his arraignment. He had no prior criminal history.

The alleged rape reportedly occurred at Drayton-Howard’s Harlem apartment on Jan. 6. Harrowing details provided by the D.A’s office reveal that both oral and attempted vaginal rape were reported by the young girl, who went to the police after the incident. Drayton-Howard fled the scene.

According to ABC7 New York, Drayton-Howard met the girl on the dating app Bumble. At age 10, she would have been too young to have a permissible account with the service. Police believe that she may have been using a fake account that circumvented Bumble’s rules and conditions.

After reports of the alleged incident surfaced, Bumble released the following statement: “Child sexual abuse is a horrific crime and has no place in society or on Bumble’s platform. We take all gender-based violence reports incredibly seriously.”

A judge set Drayton-Howard’s bail at $25,000. He reportedly remains imprisoned at Rikers Island.
