Police Nab Violent Repeat Robbery Suspect
Police caught up with a suspect wanted for a number of robberies. In the first incident, which took place Tuesday, November 24, 2020, a 26-year-old woman was walking northbound on Columbus Ave. at West 78th St. when she was approached by three individuals. One of the three grabbed her purse and dragged her to the ground before removing her purse from her arm.
Then at 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, November 26, a 73-year-old woman was walking eastbound in front of 413 East 79th St. near First Ave. when one of the suspects from the trio before, a young man, walked up from behind and snatched her shoulder bag off her shoulder before fleeing southbound on York Ave.
Next, on Thursday, November 26, an 88-year-old woman was walking behind 1725 York Ave. at East 89th St. when the same suspect grabbed her bag from her right shoulder. He took the bag with such force that the victim fell to the ground and suffered abrasions to her left hand as well as pain in her left shoulder.
In the final incident, which took place at 2:50 p.m. on the same day, a 29-year-old woman got buzzed into a building at 64 East 97th St. between Madison Ave. and Park Ave., and the same suspect followed her into the lobby and tried to forcibly remove her pocketbook. She resisted and sustained a laceration to the left side of her face when the suspect punched and elbowed her. The victim finally dropped her cellphone and fled the location. The good news: the suspect, Timothy Smith, 23, was positively identified and arrested on August 11 on multiple charges of robbery.
Gang of Four Robs Pricey Boutique
A 29-year-old female employee at the Mackage store at 814 Madison Ave. between East 68th St. and East 69th St. reported that at 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17, four 20-year-old men came into the location and tried to distract her by requesting different sizes of clothing. She then noticed that the four were taking garments, and when they tried to leave without paying one of the suspects shoved her into a door and punched her twice. The suspects unlocked the front door and got into a gray 2021 BMW X3 with NY plates BX9O2X that was double parked out front. Police said that vehicle had been reported stolen in the 19th Precinct. The merchandise taken included 16 coats and other garments totaling $11,310.
Irate Diner Arrested after Assaulting Restaurant Employee
Police said that at 11 p.m. on Monday, August 16, a 27-year-old male employee of the Green Kitchen restaurant at 1477 First Ave. at East 77th St. got into a dispute with a 53-year-old male customer when the employee asked him to pay his check, as the establishment was about to close. The customer began arguing and throwing condiment items and knocking over chairs. He then struck the employee with his closed fist, causing a cut to the employee’s lower lip, before striking the employee on the left side of his body with a chair, causing substantial pain and a cut to the victim’s left middle finger. Afrim Kukaj was arrested on a charge of assault.
