1,000 Drums Crying for Peace

As part of Make Music New York, Percussionist Andre E. Small of Afrikumba Utibé Drummers invites drummers of all backgrounds, styles and skill levels to join him in East Harlem for a historic participatory performance: 1,000 Drums Crying for Peace. The performance is meant to send a clear message: “put down the guns, put aside the violence, and pick up a drum.” Additional performances are planned to accompany the event and will take place at Uptown Grand Central Plaza along E 125th Street.

The Jaffe Drive parking lot at Lincoln Center will transform into a speakeasy (designed by Tony Award-winning costume and set designer Clint Ramos) three nights a week this summer. Free spoken word and poetry performances, comedy acts, and jazz sets are all planned for the space.. The programming has been curated by comedians Suzette Simon and Wali Collins, Lincoln Center Poet-in-Residence Mahogany L. Browne, and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Come rain or shine, and bring cash for the bar.
Archer Aymes Lost and Found Retrospective: A Juneteenth Exhibition

Carl Hancock Rux has curated an art installation of newly discovered works by Archer Aymes, whose mysterious life served as the subject of Rux’s Obie-award winning play,
“Talk.” The immersive installation commemorates Juneteenth by asking the observer to explore the legacy of emancipation through the work of Aymes. The event will feature a concert performance by mezzo soprano and composer Alicia Hall Moran and pianist Aaron Diehl.
Reclaim Pride

Reclaim Pride is a coalition of organizations & individuals fighting to reclaim the legacy of Stonewall in NYC and the spirit of Pride, which is increasingly appropriated by capitalist interests. On June 26, they will be hosting a queer liberation march for trans and BIPOC freedom, reproductive justive, and bodily autonomy. Join at Foley Square for a different kind of Pride celebration.
