AM + BU$H + ED

Despite its history and tradition on Broadway and in Hollywood, tap dancing is still seen as an underground art form. By incorporating spoken word poetry and a DJ playing music for all ages, Michela Marino Lerman hopes to reach new audiences with her three-part show, AM + bu$h + ED. It begins with "AM," personal reflections from the dancers, then moves onto "bu$h," a subtle political manifest on how corporate America use their young and finishes with "ED," a statement on education. "It's about how information gets passed from old to young and vice versa," Marino-Lerman explains. The music selected for the show is a mix of styles, ranging from Jimi Hendrix to Sade, that reflect the diversity of the East Village. DJ Supreme, who is also a tap dancer, brings tap and hip-hop together while Mswati Elijah and Kesed inject a spoken word element.
