Blotter
The focus this week is on the Do's and Don'ts of Bank Robbery.
Lets look at a "Don't" first. On Monday afternoon, Mary Robinson, 44, entered a Chase bank on 145th Street, slipped the teller a demand note and walked away with $700. Skimpy for a bank job, huh? But remember, it was $700 more than she had that morning.
Then she got greedy. The very next day, Robinson went into another bank just a few blocks away from the first, slipped another note and waited. This time, the teller took her own sweet time. Robinson got antsy, finally giving up and running, leaving empty-handed.
In an apparent panic, she went to another nearby bank, where the same thing happened, forcing her to leave empty-handed again. Then she walked just a few blocks further, went into a third bank where the same thing happened. By now, the police were in the neighborhood with a pretty good description. She was taken into custody and earned zilch that day.
As for the proper way to handle a bank robbery, a man entered a Washington Mutual on the Upper West Side late Tuesday afternoon. He showed no weapon and made no threats. He merely walked up to the teller, said "give me 20s and 50s, no dye pack"-and that's exactly what he got. He walked out of that bank $8,000 richer. Police are still looking for him.
