BORN AGAIN SINNER
David Berkowitz, the infamous Son of Sam, is invoking the same law his murders inspired in a bid to thwart his former lawyer, Hugo Harmatz. Harmatz has published a collection of the convict's letters entitled Dear David. Berkowitz and his new lawyer, as dutiful servants of New York state's "Son of Sam law," are demanding that any proceeds from the book be held for his victims' families. This would be considered ironic, if the Jewish serial killer wasn't already a born-again Christian with a book of his own, titled Son of Hope. The New York Post reports that at least one of the relatives approves of Berkowitz's latest crusade. His righteous anger grows from a legal battle between he and Harmatz that began last year, when Berkowitz charged that his ex-lawyer had stolen his personal property, including the letters, his will and his bar mitzvah photos. Depositions in the trial are scheduled to be given by both men at the end of July.
