Brooklyn's Finest

n Saturday, two Brooklyn men were arrested in Oceanside, L.I. after trying to pull a scam at a Victoria's Secret outlet. While one of the men waited outside in the car, the other went into the store and attempted to return stolen underpants for cash (it was more complicated than that, but that's what it boils down to).

They'd apparently been pulling the scam all over the state, but were tripped up this time when the man in the store panicked, punched a clerk and bolted. He slipped on the ice outside and was captured.

None of that's here nor there, though. The question is this: You're a tabloid copywriter. You've got a story about two morons blowing a scam at a fancy underwear store. Now, where do you go with the headline?

Well, if you're at the Daily News, you do what you can.

Bras Scam Turns Into a Big Bust

It's playful, yet tasteful. In the end, well, they tried.

If you're at the Post, however, and you're all caffeined-up, you pull out the ol' thesaurus and cram in as many underwear references as you can into the space, whether or not they make any sense at all:

Wow, huh? They were trying way too hard on that one, and failing badly.

Still, we have to wonder why no one thought of the obvious:
