Chuck: Mad Magazine Encourages Lip!
To be honest, Chuck Schumer's weekly cries for attention (i.e., his Sunday press conferences) used to really piss us off. But as his calls to outlaw things he doesn't like or increase the surveillance levels of New Yorkers going about their daily lives become more and more ridiculous, we've actually started looking forward to them. You never know what wacky thing he's gonna say next!
This past Sunday, for instance, the senator was in banning mode again. History and sociological research be damned, ol' Chuck wants to ban another videogame. Normally he waits until a game has been on the market for a few years and sold millions of copies before he tries to stop it. This time, however, he's trying to stop a game called 25 to Life before it's even released, by demanding that Microsoft and Sony revoke their licensing deals, and calling on stores not to stock it.
The game, see, allows players to choose between being a cop or a criminal. After doing so, the objective of the game seems to involve killing as many people as possible. Essentially, then, it's a high-tech version of "Cops & Robbers"-a game Schumer apparently never played as a child. Or at least never played right. Or maybe he did play, lost all the time, and remains bitter about it.
Another possibility is that that the good senator is actually in the pocket of Sony, Microsoft and Eido (the game's manufacturer). After all, the fool just gave this thing more free pre-publicity than any of those companies could've hoped for. In trying to ban it, he just guaranteed pre-orders in the millions.
