Crime Blotter

First there was Darryl Littlejohn, the Falls nightclub bouncer who was indicted in April for the murder of bar patron Imette St. Guillen, as well as the kidnap and rape of a Queens woman. Then last Tuesday there was Stephen Sakai, a bouncer at Opus 22, who allegedly went nuts and shot four patrons, killing one, and later confessed to three other murders. That's slim evidence upon which to base a trend, but just a few days before the Opus 22 incident, there was Ricky Velez.

Velez was the bouncer at a Sunset Park bar who, around 3:30 Saturday morning, ejected a 33-year-old juicer. Despite all evidence to the contrary, the drunk felt that he hadn't yet had his fill, so he turned around and tried to get back in. When Velez blocked him, the man-who perhaps only wanted to use the bathroom-unzipped his pants and began pissing on a car parked nearby.

Now, for some reason, this infuriated Velez, who allegedly stomped across the sidewalk and kicked the man in the balls (It's unclear whether he'd finished peeing-and if he hadn't, that's really low). As if that wasn't enough, Velez then reportedly pulled a canister of Mace from his pocket and sprayed it in the man's eyes. Then-was this really necessary?-with the guy already doubled over and Maced, Velez allegedly knocked him cold, possibly breaking his cheek bone and nose. Maybe the drunk had said something about his mother or something, but it seems much more likely that Velez-like all bouncers, apparently-is a just an insane thug. He's being charged with several variations on "assault & battery."
