GREEN PARTY REVEALS GOV HOPEFUL
Malachy ("Frank's Brother") McCourt announced on Sunday that he'd like to take on Elliot Spitzer and Tom Suozzi to become the next Governor of New York. The Irish-born writer has written over half a dozen books, including histories, memoirs, political commentaries and self-help books about getting sober. In the movies he's made over the course of the last four decades, he's played cops, judges, doormen, bartenders, military officers, police commissioners and priests. Being a Green Party candidate would normally be the kiss if death for any candidate. But keep in mind that when it comes to political campaigns, celebrities have a bizarre knack for winning (Tom Laughlin, Hunter S. Thompson and Jello Biafra excluded). Look at Ronald Reagan, Jesse Ventura, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Fred Grandy and Sonny Bono. At least if it happened in New York, we'd become the first state to elect an actor who wasn't a complete joke.
