Masters of Groove: Grant Green Jr., Reuben Wilson and Bernard Purdie
The second Grant Green's got some of his old man's chops on guitar for sure. Though he's played with James Brown, King Curtis and Diz, Pretty Purdie's might still be best known for his '93 claim that he was drumming where Ringo was credited on a handful of Beatles tracks. If only it were true. Reuben Wilson samples nicely, as Nas and Tribe can attest to, among others.
Sweet Rhythm, 88 7th Ave. S. (betw. Bleecker & Grove Sts.), 212-255-3626; 8, 10, 12, $20.
Listen Here! 50 Years of Eddie Palmieri!
One of the most important and most danceable musicians in the world. It won't be as much fun as seeing him in Prospect Park in July, but still-here's to at least 50 more.

A funky, younger bop player. Thankfully, less solemn than some of his peers.

Lew Soloff, Joe Locke, François Moutin
Soloff is an oddly mournful fellow considering he's best known for his work with Blood, Sweat & Tears.

Songs of the Spirit: Meshell Ndgeocello, DJ Spooky, The Klezmatics and Others
