    Be Your Own Pet

Nashville teens play songs that we've all heard before. But they're teens-so we'll cut them some slack.

The Slip Their sound varies from show to show depending on the vibes. The Mercury Lounge can give off some good ones. But then again they are a jam band who's mission is to "bring jazz back to the dance hall" Huh?

    Mercury Lounge, 217 E. Houston St. (betw. Ludlow & Essex Sts.), 212-260-4700; 7, $8.

Foreign Islands They got it down pat with handclaps, synths, whistles and distorted bass.

    Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

A band that seemed to be living in a house of hype years ago, has kept some fans riding their coattails. It's sold out and maybe deservingly so but I don't trust a band whose name's acronym is catchier than their singles.

    New York Dolls

If you can deal with the jerks that are guaranteed to line the walls at this show, the spectacle should be worth it, even without Johnny Thunders.

    Gza

Wu-Tangs' smartest, not necessarily slickest (that'd be Ghostface) rhymesayer will probably slay the house. Hopefully guest appearances from his Staten Island proteges will be on point.

    BB King's, 237 W. 42nd St. (betw. 7th & 8th Aves.), 212-997-4144; 8, $22/$19.50 adv.

Steel Pulse Even if you're not super-crazy about their poppish reggae, these guys should have some killer costumes, and serious dread masterpieces. They've been doing this for years so they should hold down a pretty good show.

    Irving Plaza, 17 Irving Place (at E. 15 St.), 212-777-6800; $30/$27.50 adv.
