Politically Incorrect Headline of the Week

We thought the Post was pushing it last Friday when they hailed the conviction of Kenneth Lay with a front-page banner screaming "Bad Lay." Then we opened the Daily News, and saw a story about a 6-foot-3, 300-pound man who'd robbed 2 Staten Island banks last week. In reporting the same story, the Post referred to the man as "obese," and 1010 WINS made no mention of the man's weight whatsoever. But the Daily News took the prize this week by running the story under the headline, "Big Hunt After S.I. Banks Hit by Fatso." Of course it could've been worse. They could've called him a "Big Tub-O'-Lard" or "Blubberpot." Still, they probably would've offended fewer members of NYC's growing obese population if they'd chosen to go with the more sensitive "Diet-Challenged."
