Proof Pudding in Queens
"[R]egardless of whether or not we are chosen [to host the Olympics], we will continue our effort to develop the area." -Mayor Bloomberg, on building a new Mets stadium in Queens
Some questions for the Mayor: Why does the area around Willets Point need "continued" development efforts? After all, it's shared a neighborhood with a sports stadium for more than three decades. According to you, stadiums are supreme engines of growth. We're curious: How is it that after all these years, much of the area around Shea remains barren but for a few auto repair shops and junkyards? Could it be that you were wrong about the benefits of a west side stadium, and all those economists were right? Would you like to apologize to everyone for blowing so much ignorant, duplicitous smoke out of your ass for so long? We didn't think so.
