Retards For Bloomberg

The Times must have gone to some extra-special effort to find the 1014 people they polled about Mayor Bloomberg's performance. The poll, released last week to coincide with the kickoff to Bloomberg's reelection campaign, reveals (if taken at face value) a populace that: doesn't follow the news as a matter of principle; follows the news, but finds it far too difficult to believe; is just plain rock-stupid; or is quite possibly diabolical and sinister. Just take a look at some of the results.

Fifty-three percent of those polled are opposed to the Mayor's West Side stadium plan. Yet at the same time, a whopping 67 percent still want the Olympics to come here in 2012. Are these people just not listening to the Mayor? He's made it perfectly clear you can't have one without the other. Or are they just assuming that they'll be dead by the time 2012 rolls around, and so won't have to deal with it?

And while much has been made about the fact that 68 percent of those polled think the public schools are nightmarish hellholes, try turning that number over a second. It also means that 32 percent think New York's public schools are fine and dandy-a great and sunny environment in which any child can learn and develop the skills necessary to become a productive member of society.

Who are these people? Where are they getting their information? Have they been inside a public school recently? Better yet, have they been walking past a public school when it lets out? Do they read the crime blotters or watch the news at all?

Or do those numbers represent the 32 percent of the population who just can't stand kids, and wish nothing but evil upon those poor suckers who can't afford $100,000/year private school tuitions? (That actually might explain a lot.)

When taken together, these results help explain why Bloomberg's approval rating has jumped 10 percentage points since last summer. Luckily, the same poll still has him getting his ass stomped if the election were held today and Bloomberg were running against a roller-skating monkey with a slingshot.
