After weeks of gun violence in the Bronx and Brooklyn—including multiple mass shootings—the nightmare of stray bullets again hit Manhattan in broad daylight, striking an innocent 69-year-old East Harlem woman, Robin Wright, in the face and killing her on Wednesday Aug. 27.

Wright, who depended on a walker, was returning home from a nearby Chinese restaurant with her friend,Juanita Arnold when she was caught by stray gunfire outside the CTown grocery on the northwest corner of East 110th Street and Madison Avenue.

Wright was a beloved resident of NYCHA Lehman Houses, whose campus extends to the intersection’s southeast corner, which is co-named Tito Puente Way.

Arnold said the bullet “came out of nowhere, from a distance” and that she and Wright were unaware of any altercation going on.

What did happen, cops believe, is that two thugs mugged another man who chased his assailants and then began shooting.

It’s reported that cops found nearly two dozen shell casings on the ground.

According to ABC 7 Eyewitness News, surveillance video shows “a man in a black hoodie wearing a face mask, seen firing off a rapid succession of shots from a handgun so fast that it looked like the white flashes of a high-speed shutter camera.”

Wright’s death recalls a stray-bullet slaying of another senior women this past April 26 in Harlem. Beloved community figure 61-year-old Excenia “Mama Zee” Mette was caught in a late-night gun battle when she stepped from her apartment to check on her adult grandson outside and was killed by a stray bullet.

At press time, which precedes Labor Day Weekend, cops hadn’t released surveillance photos nor an official description of the suspects.
