Homeless Man Charged with Sexually Motivated Burglary in East Village

A 27-year-old man entered an Alphabet City apartment where he was found sexually gratifying himself in the early hours of Aug. 29.

The undomiciled man, later identified by police as Ulysses Lucero, was reportedly on parole at the time and was reportedly previously arrested 21 times.

Prior arrests were said to stem from burglaries, grand larcenies, forcible touching and assaults among other charges.

Lucero was arrested again Aug. 29 after he was found pleasuring himself in a woman’s bedroom while she was sleeping. According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, the woman woke up to see Lucero exposing himself while standing at the foot of her bed while masturbating.

As detailed by an EV Grieve Q&A interview with the unnamed woman, Lucero was said to access her room through the building next door after police found the door to the roof open. This allowed Lucero to climb over the roof, and come down her fire escape to enter through an open bedroom window.

After waking up to the disturbance, the woman dialed 911 at approximately 4:20 a.m. but in the EV Grieve article said she did not get a clear look at him but began screaming, sending the victim fleeing through the door to her apartment. A neighbor who heard the victim’s shouts was awakened and saw the suspect fleeing

Police took both the victim and the neighbor in police cruiser around the Alphabet City neighborhood with the hope of spotting the suspect to no avail. But after the two were dropped back at their apartment, the neighbor spotted the alleged suspect in a nearby garden and police were able to apprehend him.

Lucero was placed into custody and charged with burglary in the second degree as a sexually motivated felony. He was arraigned in criminal court with bail set at $100,000 cash bail and $300,000 bond.
