The Most Popular Celebrity Hangouts In Tribeca
Part of the charm of living in New York City is the potential. The potential to meet someone who changes your job. The potential to get a life-changing opportunity. The potential to see A-list celebrities in the flesh...
That’s why so many of us are willing to live in “shoeboxes” that cost thousands of dollars. That’s why we put up with the rats and smelly-ness. And it’s damn worth it to most New Yorkers.
That’s why we want to make it even more worthwhile for those reading. We’re going to list some of the celebrity hangout spots of the famous in Tribeca, one of Manhattan’s favorite neighborhoods. It’s where a lot of A-listers actually live in the city so it’s not all that hard to come across some of them at the spots we’re about to name!
Nobu Restaurant
You just knew this was going to end up on the list, right? Of course, it is! Nobu is not just a celebrity favorite in New York City, but in Los Angeles and other parts of the world — it’s only located in a few mega-cities (sorry, Cleveland!). Part of the appeal is, well, it’s co-owned by a celebrity in Robert De Niro. Who’s more New York than De Niro, right?
But that’s not the only reason you should go to Nobu Downtown in Tribeca. The bigger reason is that this is actually the first Nobu. Before expanding to the world and attracting the most famous, it was just a luxury restaurant in Tribeca. It was started by its namesake, Nobu Matsuhisa, and attracted A-listers from everywhere. Actors you see on the big screen, musicians you listen to on the way to work, and athletes you normally bet on at Bovada. Everyone goes here!
So go to Nobu, yes, to see some famous people. Yes, to eat some amazing Peruvian-Japanese-fused food. But also go here for the history. Nobu practically invented celebrity dining culture in the area, and so many greats have eaten here before. Join that legacy by stopping here!
The Odeon
Ok, we take something back: Nobu didn’t necessarily invent celebrity eating culture in Tribeca. It popularized it, certainly, but there was one restaurant that truly brought the stars to Tribeca first, and that’s Odeon.
Remember, Tribeca wasn’t always super high-luxury like it is right now. This didn’t start happening until the 90s and then really took off in the 2000s. But places like Odeon helped turn the corner for the neighborhood and the famous people in it. So in a way, Odeon is that generational gap that connects Tribeca between what it was and what it is today.
Odeon is still going strong with its French menu. On a nice day, sitting outside — on the corner of 145 West Broadway Street — is just a vibe that needs to be experienced. Seriously!
Locanda Verde
Located inside the Greenwich Hotel, the Locanda Verde is famous for its Italian cuisine and ability to attract superstar celebrities. Ironically, this one is co-owned by Robert De Niro. And we know what you’re thinking, does De Niro own all of Tribeca?
The answer is no, but his fingerprints are all over the neighborhood, that’s for sure. De Niro was living here before it was cool and he was already one of Hollywood’s highest-paid actors. He invested big into the neighborhood, with not just restaurants, but things like the Tribeca Film Festival.
So yes, we do have De Niro to thank for a lot of this article. But getting back to Locanda Verde, it remains a favorite for celebrities, who often stay at the hotel it’s connected to (that De Niro owns). Many of these celebs don’t want to attract attention outside on the streets, so end up going to Locanda Verde. So the chances of seeing a famous person here are higher than most.
Tribeca Film Festival
We said this one earlier, but it bears repeating. This festival happens every year in June, and it’s a guaranteed hotbed for actor, actresses, directors, and the famous.
The real allure of this multiple-week festival is getting invited to the parties and events that surround it. Those are where you have a real chance at actually speaking with the stars — not just catching a quick glimpse.
The Roxy Hotel
Alright, De Niro doesn’t own this hotel, but it is a vibe in of itself. First of all, the hotel lobby is a sight to behold — roaring 20s vibe! Then there’s Paul’s Cocktail Lounge and The Rarity Lounge inside for getting drinks. And don’t forget, the old-school cinema inside too.
Even if you don’t run into a celebrity here, you’ll feel like you did. There’s just an aura inside the hotel that screams classic America and celebrity.
Tini’s
For our last pick, check out Tini’s bar. It looks like a townhouse cause it was a townhouse before being transformed into this luxury drinking spot.
The crowd that frequents Tini’s definitely favors the well off, with occasional sightings of famous people. It’s a little more private so celebrities have been know to visit here.
That just about covers it. Tribeca isn’t really a nightclub destination so you won’t see that on our list. It really comes down to certain bars, restaurants, and hotels where you’ll run into stars in Tribeca — that and just walking about the street, that is. Tribeca is a great neighborhood, so feel free to explore it on your own and discover a hidden gem that’s starting to bring in A-listers!
